Mum told us to do a job properly or not at all.  She was very thorough and had very high standards.  Thank you letters for Birthday or Christmas gifts had to be neatly written with no mistakes.  This taught us to take pride in what we did, no matter how big or small the task.

To us mum was always very sensible and astute, and seemed to have a good measure of people.  She liked Susan's husband Nigel from the first time she met him, and to Susan that was a very good sign.  She remembers hearing her exclaiming to dad 'did you see how shiny his shoes were'.
