The Hon Treasurer

Created by Steven 3 years ago

Living by the coast mum thought it important that we learned to swim and so she enrolled us in the local swimming club.  The club were short of voluntary staff and, given her experience in the bank, mum agreed to take on the post of Hon Treasurer.  Most parents would give up such a role when their children left the club, but mum continued for a remarkable 30 years - a fixture at the pay desk at the Phoenix pool on Fridays, the High School pool on Tuesdays and at Sunday morning galas.  Mum twice won the Dennis Thompson trophy for long service at the Great Yarmouth Sports Awards (in 1993 and 2002) and was awarded Life Membership of Great Yarmouth Swimming Club in 1996.

Mum's friend Pat Hollis remembers her as an efficient and astute treasurer and there was one rule for all - pay up promptly!
